Stolen hair spray leads to fight with security and police
WICHITA FALLS, TX January 26 2019 The Wichita Falls Police Department made an arrest Wednesday night after an alleged robbery at a local grocery store.
Police arrested Cody Peterson, 31, after he allegedly got in a physical fight with security personnel and an off-duty police officer.
Officers said they were dispatched to the United Supermarkets on Old Jacksboro Highway shortly after 9 p.m. Store employees said a woman and a man, who was later identified as Peterson, entered the store and split up to begin shopping.
Employees said Peterson grabbed several food items, while the woman grabbed a bottle of hair spray and put it inside her purse. The two people went through the checkout line and paid for the food items, but not for the hair spray.
As the pair moved to leave the store, security guards and an off-duty police officer stepped in front of their way. Police said they identified themselves and tried to stop them.
Officers said the woman moved towards the parking lot and security tried to grab her. Police said Peterson then stepped in between the woman and the security guards.
The woman and Peterson then began physically fighting with the security guards and the officer. Police said Peterson eventually punched one of the security guards and knocked him over.
Police said a truck drove up during the altercation and the woman reportedly got in the truck and escaped. Peterson was detained by security and was brought back inside the store to wait for police to arrive.
Peterson was arrested and booked to the Wichita County Jail, where he remains as of Thursday afternoon. The woman has not been located at this time.
