Store clerk shoots man after security guard, clerk assaulted outside Fayetteville food mart
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. Sept 10 2020— Police said a convenience store clerk shot a man Tuesday night after a group started bothering a homeless man outside the shop.
Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the Suburban Food Mart at 2112 Murchison Road around 11 p.m.
According to police, three people approached the store and started talking to a homeless man who was outside. When a store clerk and a paid security guard went outside and asked them to leave, the three began to assault the clerk and security guard.
The clerk and security guard then ran back into the store for their own safety.
Police respond to Fayetteville food mart after argument
Another employee fired gunshots at the three people, who police said were trying to break inside the store.
One man was shot and taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with a life-threatening injury. Fayetteville officers said the man has undergone surgery and was expected to survive.
The parking lot and part of the street were blocked off during the investigation, and yellow police tape surrounded the store.
Officers were taking pictures of a car and speaking with someone inside the store.
So far, no charges have been filed.
