Student accidentally shoots self in incident at Huntsville elementary school

Huntsville police say one student was wounded in an incident at Sonnie Hereford Elementary this morning.
Sgt. Rosalind White of Huntsville police said officers believe the shooting at 2755 Wilson Drive was an accidental self-inflicted wound. The student was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police are still gathering information.
On the school’s website, parents were alerted to the incident:
“We are posting this alert to make you aware of a serious incident that occurred on campus this morning. We are working with law enforcement authorities to investigate a shooting incident that occurred inside the building. While the threat has been contained, one student did suffer injuries and that family has already been notified. We ask families to stay clear of campus at this time as we work with law enforcement authorities to address this incident. We will provide you with more information as soon as it becomes available.”
