Students Pay Homage to High Point University Security Officer
High Point NC May 17th, 2023
Another year, another graduation.
Sometimes saying goodbye to the faculty and friends is not easy for some students.
But as students at the High Point University Class of 2023 prepared to graduate, they also wanted one special employee of the school to know that they would not forget her and appreciated her always being there for them.
So the students paid homage to school security officer Valerie Baxter – Miss Val — at graduation.
Even David Muir shared the story of Miss Val, who graduates call a “mom away from home”, on his nightly ABC news show. https://abcn.ws/2XvP3JQ
ABC World News Tonight with David Muir said that she not only hugs the students but she hugs the parents as well.
Those first days leaving your child on campus can be emotional she said but she is there as well as you pull off the campus. She is pretty amazing said the students!
Not only can you find her on campus working but she returns during her own time to support these students as well when she is off. You can normally hear her from across the arena on a game night cheering on the athletes as they play.
She told David that is so thankful that she is getting recognized. My daughter graduated as well on this day it was an amazing day to be a parent of an HPU grad.
I would also be upset with myself if I didn’t follow up with one last statement.
This type of behavior on the campus of High Point is not unusual, it’s actually part of the culture. They truly are extraordinary here at High Point University.
