Suicidal Rochester police employee barricades himself at Seneca Niagara Casino Hotel
Niagara Falls, NY Nov 1 2018
A suicidal man held Falls police at bay for two hours as he holed-up in a room in the Seneca Niagara Casino Hotel on Monday morning.
Officers were called to the hotel by casino security at around 6:45 a.m. for a report of a man barricaded in a room. Patrol and Emergency Response Team officers, along with hostage negotiators responded to the call.
“There has been issues on the gaming floor with this individual earlier (Sunday) night,” Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto said.
DalPorto said a woman who had been in the room was allowed to leave when police arrived.
The 45-year-old man was reportedly affiliated with the Rochester Police Department, though authorities said it wasn’t clear if he was an active duty officer. Investigators said the man was not armed.
After talking to the man, he surrendered to negotiators and was transported to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for a mental health evaluation.
On Monday evening, Falls police said they were still determining whether any charges would be filed against the man.
