Suit alleges security guard was injured transporting bodies to hospital morgue during pandemic
Houston TX March 9 2023 A security guard at a Houston hospital alleges she suffered multiple injuries while transporting bodies to the morgue during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Felecia Bryant filed a complaint Feb. 17 in Harris County District Court against CHCA Bayshore LP doing business as HCA Houston Healthcare-Southeast and HSS Inc., alleging premises liability, negligence, Worker’s Compensation retaliation and other claims.
Bryant, according to her complaint, was working as a security guard at HCA Houston Healthcare-Southeast in Pasadena on March 31, 2021. She claims that she was ordered by HCA employees to transport bodies to the hospital morgue during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, despite the work being outside the scope of her job duties.
Bryant claims that after transporting a very heavy body, the wheel on the lift transport got stuck which caused her to tear her rotator cuff and suffer several herniated discs in her lower back while trying to maneuver the transport. Bryant alleges she required back surgery and is awaiting shoulder surgery. She claims the defendant’s worker’s compensation insurance carrier has failed to make any indemnity payments and that she has lost all income.
Bryant seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. She is represented by Joseph Gourrier of Teh Gourrier Law Firm PLLC in Bellaire and Kimberly Bennett of The Bennett Law Firm PLLC in Crosby.
