Suspect gets Tased after taking an officer’s Taser and threatens police and security
Wichita Falls TX March 16 2020 Police arrested a man after he allegedly took one officer’s Taser and threatened officers and hospital security personnel with it.
Wichita Falls police arrested Heath Hansen, 38.
According to a court affidavit, shortly after 1 a.m. Friday, police were dispatched to United Regional hospital for a disturbance between a patient and the hospital’s staff.
WFPD dispatchers told the officers Hansen was having hallucinations and refusing medical treatment. The hospital staff told the officers Hansen ripped his medical IV lines from his arm as he was being medically cleared before going to Red River Hospital for detoxification.
Hansen, according to the report, got off his bed and sat on a counter. After the officers and hospital security repeatedly asked him to get down, a WFPD officer approached in a non-aggressive manner asking Hanson to get off of the counter top, but Hansen ripped the Taser from the officer’s holster, and pointed it at the policeman.
Hansen began pointing the taser at hospital security, so police and security took cover outside of the exam room. As one WFPD officer left the room he drew his handgun, pointed at Hansen, and demanded he drop the Taser. Hansen reportedly pointed the Taser at another Wichita Falls police officer.
Officers noticed the stolen Taser was not turned on, and one drew his own Taser and fired it at Hansen. Even after being tased, Hanson struggled with officers until they finally subdued him, according to the report.
According to the Wichita County Jail inmate roster, Hansen was charged with taking a weapon from an officer, four counts of aggravated assault against a public servant, and resisting arrest. His total bond was set at $112,000 and he remained in jail Saturday afternoon.
