Suspected shoplifter at Target in Emeryville arrested, guns seized
EMERYVILLE CA April 7 2018 — A Tracy man suspected of stealing items from a Target store was arrested Wednesday and several guns seized after officers on a probation search found them in his home.
Phillip Carter, 30, also had several Airsoft guns with him when officers took him into custody, police said. Police arrested him at his residence in San Leandro.
In a statement about the arrest, police said they conducted a warrant search on the home. Officers there grabbed at least a half-dozen firearms.
“We were there for a probation search, and the guns were in plain view,” Emeryville Capt. Oliver Collins said.

According to police, Carter pulled out a gun after being approached by store security, after they saw him shoplifting at the store in the 1500 block of 40th Street around 8:30 p.m. on March 27.
Carter fled before police arrived, but officers quickly identified him as the suspect, police said.
He is suspected of brandishing a gun and petty theft and remained in Santa Rita Jail on Wednesday morning in lieu of $115,000 bail. He also was on probation, police said.
According to the jail, he still must answer to two previous burglary charges, including one in the first degree; being a felon in possession of a firearm; being a felon with a concealed firearm and concealed stolen firearm; and two charges of possessing a controlled substance.
