Suspects in 2016 shooting death of apartment security guard enter pleas
LAS VEGAS NV June 15 2017 Two men accused of shooting and killing a local security guard, who was working at a southwest Las Vegas valley apartment complex under construction, appeared in court Wednesday.
Julian Warren, 20, and Deandre Daniels, 29, pleaded not guilty to charges related to the murder of Mark Santee.
Police say in April 2016, the 48-year-old victim was working his shift as a security guard when he was beaten and then shot multiple times at a construction site on the 5100 block of South Jerry Tarkanian Way, near Russell and Fort Apache.
Santee may have been trying to stop a robbery of TVs when he was gunned down. Investigators also add that evidence at the scene suggests there was a struggle.
When prosecutors filed the murder charges, both Warren and Daniels were already behind bars for unrelated incidents. The men had to be re-booked on multiple counts including murder, robbery and burglary.
A third person, Raymond Padilla, is also charged for Santee’s murder. Padilla has been indicted in the case and has a hearing scheduled for July 10.
The case against Warren is now scheduled to head to trial this fall.
The defense team for Daniels is asking for more time to submit requests to the courts for how they’d like to proceed with the case moving forward. Daniels is set to be back in court on July 12.
