Sweetwater TN hospital security assaulted, woman arrested
Sweetwater TN. October 5 2021
A woman needing a catheter removed ended up going to jail Oct. 1.
Sweetwater Police Department Officer Kevin Watson said he was sent to the hospital on a call a woman named Sharon Farner had assaulted hospital staff and walked out of the building.
Watson said when he arrived at the hospital, he found Farner with hospital security in the parking lot. He said security was trying to get her back into the emergency room so she could have a catheter removed.
Watson said he tried to talk to Farner, but she was uncooperative and walked away. He said she did go back into the main entrance of the hospital while screaming and cursing, but refused to go into the emergency room.
Watson asked hospital staff if Farner had commitment papers to be checked in and they said she didn’t, so he attempted to place her under arrest for disorderly conduct.
Watson said she tried to pull away and Detective John Scruggs had to help get her into the handcuffs. Watson said Farner then had to be carried out of the hospital, then refused to get into a patrol car. Watson said he then used a drive stun on his Taser on her right hip and she got into the car and was taken to jail.
Watson said officers spoke to a hospital employee who said Farner was trying to go into other patients rooms and when the employee stopped her, Farner allegedly struck her, leaving marks on her arms.
Farner, 43, McJunkin Road, Tellico Plains, was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and assault.
