Teen accused of shooting Proctor security guard takes plea deal
Utica NY January 13th, 2024 The teen accused of shooting a security guard in the head during a Proctor High School football game in Utica back in September has taken a plea deal.
Jahil Chapman, 17, appeared in Oneida County Court Friday morning where he pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder and possession of a weapon on school grounds.
Since Chapman waived his right to a trial, in which he was facing up to 40 years maximum, the plea deal offered to him will range from 18 to 20 years in prison.
Chapman is currently being held at Hillbrook Juvenile Detention Center.
He will be back in court on March 8 for sentencing.
