Teen Accused of Shooting School Security Guard During Fight
BUFFALO, N.Y. Feb 16, 2022 Police announced Monday the arrest of a 17-year-old accused of shooting a security guard after opening fire during a large fight outside a Buffalo high school last week.
The suspect, whose name was not released, is the second teen to face charges in connection with the Feb. 9 dispute at McKinley High School.
One student was stabbed 10 times and another was grazed by a bullet after an argument that started earlier in the day spilled out into a parking lot after school, authorities said. The security guard was struck in the leg as he rushed to intervene, authorities said.
The two suspects, both 17, are charged as adolescent offenders with attempted murder and assault. The teenager arrested Monday was also charged with illegal possession of a weapon, District Attorney John Flynn said.
Authorities said 15 to 25 students had gathered when the fight started, but a smaller number were involved in attacking the most severely injured victim, a 14-year-old boy who was stabbed nine times in the chest and abdomen, once in the leg and also beaten.
The security guard was treated at a hospital and released.
A 13-year-old student who was struck in the arm by gunfire did not immediately seek medical attention. Police have yet to determine whether the shot came from the gun of the suspect arrested Monday, Flynn said.
