Teens arrested for shooting at mall security officer with BB gun
BRADLEY IL Dec 23 2017— Police believe they have caught the group responsible for causing several thousands of dollars in damages during a BB gun shooting spree that appears to have started earlier this month in Kankakee.
An incident Tuesday at Northfield Square mall in Bradley led to the arrests of Racheal N. Miller, 22, of Kankakee, and four juveniles from Kankakee on Wednesday.
Preliminary charges against Miller and the juveniles include criminal damage to property, aggravated assault, mob action and probation violations.
Miller additionally was charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She will have her bond set in Kankakee County court on Friday.
According to a Bradley Police release, they were contacted by a mall security officer at approximately 8:25 p.m.
The security officer said he was shot at by “multiple subjects with a BB gun” after he escorted them off the property.
Prior to the shots being fired, the security officer said he was taking down the license plate of the suspect vehicle. He was approached by several people who threatened him with bodily harm.
They then fled in the vehicle.
Bradley police received at least two more calls from residents who reported they had damage to their vehicles, including windows shattered. Investigators believed the damage was caused by some type of gun shots.
Detective Robert Mason said the amount of damage is in the thousands of dollars.
Kankakee Police found a vehicle matching the description and identified the subjects.
BB’s and air cartridges used to fire these projectiles from a BB gun were recovered during a search of the vehicle.
Miller and the juveniles are suspected of shooting 20 to 30 vehicles in Kankakee and Tri-Star Estates in Bourbonnais this month.
According to a Facebook post from Kankakee Police earlier this month, they received 20-plus reports of criminal damage to vehicles between Dec. 5 and Dec. 12. The damage was caused by a BB or pellet gun.
According to investigators, they took two more reports this week.
