Tesco Express security guard ‘hit and spat at by suspected shoplifter

Police are hunting a ‘suspected shoplifter who attacked and spat in the face’ of a Tesco security guard.
The security officer was reportedly hit and spat at during an incident at the store on Green Lane, Castle Bromwich.
West Midlands Police are appealing to anyone who has information about the incident which happened around 10pm on Sunday (January 26) to contact them.
One man who claims he saw the incident said he had never seen anything so ‘disgusting in my life.’
A force spokesman said: “Police were called to an assault at Tesco on Green Lane, Castle Bromwich yesterday evening (26 January) where a security guard was hit and spat at by a suspected shoplifter.
“Nobody else was injured during the incident.”
A witness said: “I popped into Tesco Express Green lane around 10pm last night.
“I was horrified when I witnessed the individual spit right in the security guard’s face.
“I have never seen anything so disgusting in my life.”
He added: “The staff and security guard have to put up with behaviour like this day in and day out.
“It is completely unacceptable. The staff at this store are so friendly and go out of their way to provide great customer service.
“No one should have to he treated like this”
Tesco said they were informed and it was now a police matter. Enquiries continue and anyone with information should contact police quoting log 2528 of 26/1.
