Texas convenience store worker killed after confronting two guys who stole a bag of chips
HUMBLE, Texas January 22nd, 2024 A convenience store worker in Humble, Texas, is dead after police say he confronted two guys who stole a bag of chips.
Police are on the lookout for those men, who are now wanted for capital murder.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Friday, surveillance camera captured two men in black hoodies enter a Sunoco off of Will Clayton Parkway.
The employee they’re accused of killing is seen following right behind.
“No one ever anticipates just going to work that day and not coming home,” Assistant Chief Dan Zientek with the Humble Police Department said.
Video released by Humble Police shows them pacing the store, zeroed in on the chip aisle as the employee, who a manager said had only been working there for a few months, mops the floor.
One of the suspects then appears to put a bag of chips in his pants.
The two of them spend a bit longer in the store and leave just two minutes after entering.
“A 42-year-old worker of that store who tried to confront them. They had a verbal altercation,” Zientek said.
That conversation was captured on video outside the store. It is the last video investigators have before police say the employee followed them in his car.
“They started shooting at him, at which he tried to reverse his car and ended up on the median over there,” Zientek said.
Detectives focused on the victim’s car with bullet holes in the windshield and back passenger window.
“You’ve lost a great citizen who’s just trying to work and do their job, and instead we have two people that also have ruined their lives because they will be going to jail,” Zientek said.
The police are still searching for the two suspects.
