Three Racine women face felony shoplifting charges
RACINE WI Aug 11 2017— Three Racine women face felony shoplifting charges after allegedly trying to steal $675 worth of clothing from American Eagle at Regency Mall.
Kourtney R Manning, 23, of the 3300 block of Kentucky Street; Takitta D. Oliver, 30, of the 1300 block of Russet Street; and Ruby L. Cobb, 26, of the 1600 block of Flett Avenue were charged with retail theft of items totaling more than $500 but less than $5,000 in value.
According to the criminal complaint:
At about 1:30 p.m. on June 25, an assistant manager at American Eagle saw the three women enter the store and recognized them as known shoplifters. The women grouped up at the front of the store, and the assistant manager asked them if they needed help.
The women declined, and the employee saw Oliver allegedly place several items in a large, empty handbag she was carrying.
Cobb and Manning went to the register and purchased $85 worth of clothing while Oliver hung back, holding the now visibly full bag close to her body. While Cobb and Manning were completing their purchase, Oliver reportedly walked out of the store.
The assistant manager alerted a security officer and the two followed the group of women to the parking lot, where they entered a car and fled the mall premises. The security officer was able to take down the vehicle’s license plate information before the women got away.
Upon returning to the store, the assistant manager found 27 price tags removed from items and hidden behind some merchandise near where Oliver had been standing.
Cobb, Manning and Oliver had all been previously banned from the mall.
If convicted, they each face up to 1½ years in prison, a $10,000 fine or both.
