TN school security officer dies unexpectedly
Hamilton County, Tenn. December 20 2022— A Hamilton County Schools security officer who spent more than two dozen years as a Chattanooga Police officer and several years as a school resource officer has died unexpectedly, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office says.
Jim Brock passed away recently, a post on the HCSO Facebook page says, but it does not say how he died.
Brock served in the U.S. Army before becoming a Chattanooga Police officer. He served many years on CPD’s SWAT team before retiring.
In 2014, he joined the ranks of the HCSO School Resource Deputy Unit.
In 2020, he accepted a position of school security officer for Hamilton County Schools.
A post sstated, “He has developed strong relationships with all our students and keep us safe each day. We love him and all he does for our school.”
“Jim was one of the best. I had the privilege of working with him during both my time at the Chattanooga Police Department and at the HCSO. He never met a stranger and the kids who had him as their SRD thought the world of him. We are all deeply saddened by his unexpected passing and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time,” said Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett.
Funeral arrangements haven’t yet been announced.
