Town Center Mall security and citizens detain armed man accused of sexually assaulting child
COBB COUNTY, GA May 11 2018 Cobb County Police are investigating after an 11-year-old was attacked while in a women’s restroom at Town Center Mall.
Authorities tell CBS46, the the child went into the stall but when she exited, the door to the stall in front of her opened. The child stated that a male, later identified as Danzell Mitchell, exited the stall in front of her and grabbed her, putting a knife towards her throat. The child screamed and was able to break free from Mitchell.
The child then ran to her father and pointed out Mitchell as he emerged from the women’s restroom. He was then tackled and restrained by citizens until mall security arrived.
An official with Town Center Mall issued the following statement to our newsroom:
Town Center at Cobb management is thankful that the young shopper involved in this serious but isolated incident is safe. We would like to express our gratitude to our security team and local authorities as well as the other shoppers for their quick actions to apprehend the suspect. We are working closely with local authorities to share any information that may assist in their investigation and ask that further inquiries be directed to the Cobb County Police Department at 770-499-3945.
