Troopers: Shoplifting Suspects Ram Concord Mall Security Vehicle, Shots Fired
Wilmington DE May 6 2019– The Delaware State Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred at the Concord Mall in which a shoplifting case led to shots being fired at a vehicle, according to Public Information Officer, Master Corporal Melissa Jaffe.
Jaffe said the incident occurred on May 3, 2019, at approximately 7:44 p.m., when Troopers were dispatched to the parking lot of the Concord Mall, located at 4737 Concord Pike, for a report of shots being fired.
The preliminary investigations have determined that four suspects had shoplifted and were in the process of fleeing the scene in a vehicle.
As the vehicle was fleeing, the driver intentionally struck a mall security vehicle. Jaffe said a citizen with a conceal carry permit fired shots at the fleeing vehicle’s tires and remained on scene.
The four suspects proceeded to exit the vehicle and continued to flee the area on foot. There have been no reports of any injuries at this time.
The investigation is in its early stages with further information being released as it becomes available.
