TSA finds 50 guns at Nashville airport checkpoints so far this year
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Aug 29 2020 Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers said they found a loaded gun on a passenger’s carry-on bag at Nashville International Airport.
TSA found a loaded Kel-Tec .380 caliber in the bag at about 7430 a.m. Thursday.
Airport police were notified and the passenger was escorted out of the checkpoint area. TSA says this is the 50th gun found at BNA so far this year. A total of 97 guns were found in 2019.
Firearms are prohibited on carry-on bags. Passengers can face criminal charges and civil penalties from TSA if they bring firearms to checkpoints.
“Even with much lower than normal passenger numbers, we continue to find firearms at a very high rate at security checkpoints,” said Steve Wood, TSA Federal Security Director for Tennessee. “Passengers must remember they’re responsible for the contents of bags and our advice is they thoroughly inspect all personal belongings to make sure there are no illegal or prohibited items before coming to the airport.”
