Tulare police officer found dead of ‘apparent suicide’
Tulare CA April 6, 2023
Tulare Police Department is mourning the death of an officer, who died by “apparent suicide,” the agency reported Tuesday night.
“Officer Misael “Mase” Aguayo has been a shining star in this department since the beginning,” Sgt. Rosa Moreno said. “His cheerful and upbeat personality was contagious, to say the least. Mase will forever be in our hearts, and there are no words to express the sadness felt by all of us.”
Here’s what we know about the incident.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, department officials tried to contact Aguayo, who was on duty.
Several attempts to reach him by radio and phone went unanswered.
When officers went to find Aguayo, they discovered he’d died by “apparent suicide,” police said.
Tulare County Sheriff’s Department was called to investigate.
Aguayo started his law enforcement career as a Tulare Police Department explorer, and in September 2004, he was hired as a community service officer.
“Mase excelled in this assignment, which laid the foundation for his desire to become a sworn police officer,” Rosa stated.
