Tulsa police shoot-kill man to save security officer
TULSA, Okla. December 19 2019 A private security officer working at a convenience store came close to losing his life overnight police said.
Police say that a man walked into a QuikTrip near 23rd and Southwest Boulevard around 2:30 a.m.
The 29-year-old walked around the store for a few minutes before pulling a handgun.
The security officer on duty at the store tried to talk to the man, but the suspect quickly pointed the gun at him.
Police arrived on scene and saw the suspect with his gun pointed at the security guard. They attempted to speak to the man, but he wasn’t being cooperative.
Three officers fired shots at the suspect, hitting him to protect the security officer and others inside the store. He later died at the hospital.
The officers involved are on paid administrative leave amid the investigation.
Officers are working to learn why the suspect pulled out the gun.
“We are referring all questions to TPD as they continue their investigation,” said Mike Thornbrugh with the QuikTrip Corporation.
