Tulsa Public School bus driver arrested for assaulting security officer
TULSA, Okla. Jan 26 2020— A Tulsa Public Schools bus driver arrested and accused of assaulting security at the TPS Maintenance & Transportation Division.
TPS isn’t saying much about the incident itself, or the employee who was arrested.
In a statement, they say the last time this employee drove a TPS bus was on Tuesday.
They say safety is their number one priority, and they encourage anyone who has concerns to give them a call.
One parent we spoke with says she’s had multiple issues in the past with TPS bus drivers.
So much so that she doesn’t even allow her child to take the bus anymore.
Amanda Carrier, parent of a TPS student, says she knows drivers have a lot on their plate, but she believes they could do better.
“I know the drivers are under a lot pressure with all of the cuts and they are worried about their jobs too,” Carrier said.
Tulsa Public Schools wouldn’t identify the driver in this particular incident, or tell us whether they’re still employed by the district but they sent us a statement on the issue.
“We hold everyone on our team to the highest of standards. Any time there are reports of inappropriate employee behavior, we complete a thorough internal investigation. Depending on the nature of the allegations, we may also engage with the Tulsa Police Department. We followed those same protocols in this case. The last time this employee drove a Tulsa Public Schools bus was on Tuesday. Because safety is our number one priority, we reserve the right to prevent any employee from driving when it is deemed unsafe, and we will take all necessary employment actions to ensure student safety. We encourage any parents or community members who have feedback or concerns about transportation at Tulsa Public Schools to contact the customer care team at (918) -833-8100”
