Two Arrested, AK-47, Drugs, Cash Seized in Shoplifting Call
Waco TX July 20 2018 Police in Waco, Texas, say that two people were arrested and a third is being sought after a Monday shoplifting call turned violent and anything but routine.
Twenty-two-year-old Javon Arnett and 20-year-old Olivia Ratliff are facing multiple charges after the incident that occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Family Dollar store in the 1700 block of LaSalle in Waco.
Police had been called to the store by a clerk who spotted a man putting various items inside his pants.
The first officer to arrive spotted a man he believed to be the suspect getting into a Ford Mustang parked out front and pulled his patrol car up behind it, effectively blocking it in.
As the officer walks up to the car to contact the driver, the car was put into gear and backed up, with the open door striking the officer. Then a struggle breaks out between the officer and the man later identified as Arnett.
During the struggle the man pulls out a handgun but is unable to do anything with it and tosses it to another man in the front passenger seat.
That man along with a woman, later identified as Ratliff, run off, and Arnett is taken into custody. Police then set up a perimeter and begin searching for Ratliff, who was found hiding in a field behind the store, but the other man got away.
Checking the car, police officers find an AK-47 assault rifle with a drum magazine of a type typically holding fifty rounds in the back seat.
They also recovered a quantity of marijuana, prescription drugs, cash and a handgun. Javon Lamont Arnett was booked into the McLennan County jail on charges of robbery with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.
Olivia Nicole Ratliff was booked in on the same charges with an additional charge of evading arrest.
