Two Bristol CT police officers ambushed and murdered, 3rd in critical condition
Bristol CT October 13 2022
Two Bristol, CT, police officers were killed and a third seriously wounded in a shooting during a domestic violence call Wednesday night. The suspect was killed.
Connecticut State Police said a call came in to Bristol 911 about a domestic dispute between two “siblings” around 10:30 p.m.
Responding Bristol officers were fired on by the suspect outside of the residence.
ABC News is reporting law enforcement sources as saying the officers were ambushed. The sources say the gunman made a 911 call, possibly for a fake domestic violence incident at the home, and then carried out an apparent ambush on the officers with an AR-15-style rifle.
Sgt. Dustin Demonte, 36, died at the scene. Officer Alex Hamzy, 34, was transported but pronounced dead at the hospital.
Officer Alec Iurato, 26, was seriously wounded. Office Iurato was transported to a local hospital and is recovering after surgery for a “severe gunshot wound,” Bristol Police Chief Brian Gould said.
The suspect was pronounced dead at a hospital. His brother was injured during the incident. His condition or the nature of his injuries was not released.
Sgt. Demonte joined the Bristol Police Department in 2012. He is survived by his wife who is reportedly expecting and two children.
Officer Hamzy joined the Bristol PD in 2014. He is survived by his wife.
