Two charged with assaulting nightclub security
ST CLOUD MN April 4 2019— Two men were arrested after an incident early Sunday at the Red Carpet Nightclub in downtown St. Cloud, according to criminal complaints filed in Stearns County District Court.
Kenyatta Gaines, 39, of Sartell, faces a possible charge of felony third-degree assault and misdemeanor fifth-degree assault, according to police.
Keshawn Charvontay Pernel Johnson, 23, of St. Cloud, faces a possible charge of felony terroristic threats and two counts of misdemeanor fifth-degree assault.
According to the criminal complaints, police were sent to the Red Carpet about 12:19 a.m. Sunday about a fight.
Officers met with nightclub bouncers who identified Gaines and Johnson as the individuals who had been fighting.
One bouncer told police he was attempting to get some individuals out of the bar when Gaines and Johnson began fighting. The bouncer told Gaines struck him and had chipped his tooth.
An off-duty bouncer told police he was in the bar when he learned the on-duty bouncers needed assistance and went to help. He said he was then punched in the face by Gaines as well, according to the complaint.
Another bouncer told police he was attempting to wand Johnson for a gun or other weapons when Johnson punched him in the face. Johnson then grabbed the bouncer by the neck and told him he was going to kill him, according to the complaint.
A third bouncer told police he attempted to pull Johnson off his colleague. Johnson then punched the third bouncer, he said.
After the altercation ended, Johnson stated he was going to kill the bouncers and “shoot up the place,” according to the complaint.
Gaines and Johnson were arrested Sunday morning booked into Stearns County Jail.
