Two dead following officer-involved shooting at Dollar General
PERKINSTON, Miss. March 13 2024 At least one deputy is injured and two people are dead following an officer-involved shooting at a Dollar General in Stone County.
According to officials, the deputy was originally called to the Dollar General located on U.S. 49 in Perkinston just before 4:30 p.m.
When the deputy arrived, a suspect, now identified as 52-year-old Perry L. Stephens Jr. of Benndale, fired a gun at him. The deputy was struck in the face but returned fire and a brief round of gunfire followed.
At this time, it is believed Stephens died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Another person, 44-year-old Kimberly D. Kennedy of Pass Christian, was also found dead at the scene. Her death is believed to be connected to Stephens.
The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation is currently gathering evidence on the incident.
