Two Jamaican security officers shot in two days
St Andrew Jamaica Dec 29 2017 For the second time within only four days, the St Andrew Central police are busy investigating the shooting of a security officer in the Dallas Castle community in the east rural section of the parish.
While an attack on a district constable in the community last Thursday was not fatal, on Tuesday of this week, a security guard lost his life and his firearm was taken by an armed attacker in the deep-rural district.
Reports are that Randy Evans, 39, who was employed to Quest Security Limited, was in the company of a family member at a shop along the Dallas Castle main road, when they were attacked by a man armed with a gun.
The man opened fire, hitting Evans several times.
The gunman then stole the guard’s loaded Glock semi-automatic pistol and a cellular phone before escaping on foot in the area.
The family member escaped injury.
Four days earlier, the district constable, who is attached to the Marine Police Division, was travelling along Plantain Walk in the community, when the first incident took place.
The constable is now hospitalised with bullet wounds after he was attacked by gunmen shortly after 6:00 p.m.
He was driving home along the roadway when his vehicle came under a hail of bullets. He was hit in the chest and arm, and was rushed into emergency surgery.
The police have since launched a search for a suspect who has been labelled as a member of a criminal gang that is said to be operating in the community.
The suspect is said to be a relative of the district constable.
