Two men charged in shooting of security guard during an armed robbery of marijuana dispensary
Warren MI June 13 2023 Two men are facing charges after allegedly shooting a security guard at a marijuana facility in Warren last week and stealing a small safe.
Michael Graham of Eastpointe and Lavall Perkins of Detroit have each been charged with four felonies, including attempted murder. Authorities said one of the suspects was an employee at the facility on Sherwood near Frazho, but did not specify which man.
The suspects are accused of knocking on the door around 1 a.m. Friday. As the 40-year-old security guard approached, one of the suspects allegedly opened fire through the door.
The security guard was hit in his extremities, according to Warren Police Commissioner Bill Dwyer.
The suspects then went inside and took a small safe, before fleeing.
Warren Police officers responded shortly after the shooting and rendered lifesaving aid to the victim, including applying tourniquets to control bleeding. He was taken to a trauma facility, where he is expected to survive his injuries, according to police.
Detectives identified a suspect vehicle shortly after the shooting and arrested both suspects. They were expected to be arraigned Monday afternoon in 37th District Court. Authorities planned to release the suspects’ identities after arraignment.
Officials did not immediately release the name of the business.
Graham, 48 and Perkins, 63, were both arraigned Monday afternoon on one count each of assault with intent to murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery and felony firearm.
Graham’s bond was set at $600,000 and he was ordered to wear a GPS tether if released. Bond was set at $500,000 for Perkins, with similar tether conditions.
“I am thankful that the victim in this case will survive his injuries. Our thoughts are with him, hoping for a full and speedy recovery,” Dwyer said in a press release.
Dwyer said utilizing “advanced technology” helped the department quickly catch the suspects.
