Two Men Charged With Attempted Murder of Security Officers After Shootout
North Charleston SC June 13, 2023 Two men are facing attempted murder charges following a shootout with armed security officer outside of a North Charleston gentlemen’s club on Friday, according to an incident report obtained by News 4.
Dequan Loury, 26, of North Charleston is charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and Kenton Kelley, 26, of Charleston is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
On Friday shortly before 11 p.m., officers responded to G Club at 7240 Peppermill Pkwy for reports of a shooting, according to a report. Officers located a security officer who had been struck by gunfire. He was treated by Charleston County EMS and transported to an area hospital.
As police were investigating the shooting scene, officers stopped the vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting in Ladson and detained Loury and Kelley, according to the report. Kelley, who was driving, had been shot and was transported to a hospital before being booked into jail.
According to one of the security officers, two days earlier, both Loury and Kelley had been removed from the club. On Friday, the two returned, and Loury reportedly got into a heated argument with the security officers before retrieving a gun and opening fire on the men.
The security officers, who were both armed, returned fire.
Police say the incident was caught on video and reviewed by investigators, which corroborated the security officer’s account of events.
As of Monday afternoon, Loury remained in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center while Kelley had been released on $50,000 bond.
