Two Miramar Florida security officers engage shooter in firefight
MIRAMAR FL March 12 2021 — A dispute outside a bar escalated into a shooting that left a crowd running for cover and a victim who is alive after being shot twice in the head, twice in the hip, and once in the chest, police say.
The alleged gunman, Guy Etienne, 35, of Hallandale Beach, is accused in that shooting and in the shootout with security guards that immediately followed.
He is charged with two counts of attempted murder.
According to the arrest report, it began when Etienne got into an argument with another man outside Dini’s Kitchen and Lounge, in the 6300 block of Miramar Parkway, at about 4 a.m. Friday.
Several witnesses stepped in to separate the men. Etienne then walked off toward a silver Mercedes Benz.
He returned with a gun and opened fire, according to the arrest report. Surveillance video showed people ducking for cover behind parked cars.
A man saw Etienne coming toward the group and said to him, “put the gun down, there’s no need for it.” That man was shot five times by Etienne but survived, investigators said.
An armed security guard working in the bar’s lounge and a second armed guard working nearby returned fire in the early morning darkness. Etienne was uninjured as bullets flew. He threw the gun in the bushes and ran off just as officers arrived, the guards told police.
Police found and arrested Etienne on Miramar Parkway. Several witnesses identified him as the shooter.
Authorities retrieved a gun from the bushes, an empty holster from inside the Mercedes, and several shell casings from the parking lot, detectives said.
The wounded man — whose identity has not been disclosed by police — was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in stable condition. A woman who answered the phone at the man’s home Wednesday said the victim was an innocent bystander. He is recovering and remains hospitalized, she said.
Etienne remains in the Broward County Jail without bond, records show.
