Two shot during funeral at Frederick County, Md., church

Two people were shot Saturday at a church in Frederick County, Md., where a funeral was being held, authorities said.
The funeral apparently was for a man fatally shot earlier this month in Prince George’s County.
The victims suffered wounds not believed to be life-threatening, the county sheriff’s office said, although details about their injuries could not be learned. They were not identified, and no information about their ages or gender was available.
The gunfire was reported about 2:45 p.m. at Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church in the 5600 block of Ballenger Creek Pike, the sheriff’s office said.
It erupted outside the church in a parking area, according to media accounts. Video coverage showed yellow crime-scene tape strung in the parking area.
The assailant fled before deputies arrived, the sheriff’s office said, and no arrest had been reported as of Saturday night.
A funeral was scheduled at 2 p.m. at the church for Trevor Allan Frazier, 24, of Frederick, according to the website of the Gary L. Rollins Funeral Home. A viewing was to be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., according to the funeral home, which is in Frederick.
Frazier was shot about 12:15 a.m. April 7, in Capitol Heights, according to Prince George’s police. A second man was fatally wounded in that incident, police said.
No information about a motive or a suspect in the Capitol Heights double homicide was available.
Investigators in Frederick County do not believe Saturday’s shooting at the church was random, according to the sheriff’s office.
“The shooting occurred after an altercation between individuals at the service,” it said in a statement.
It was not clear what prompted the altercation.
The pastor of the church could not immediately be reached, and people who attended the service could not be located.
The brick church, with a peaked roof, is just north of Ballenger Creek Middle School and west of Interstate 270. It is just outside the southwestern limit of the city of Frederick and about 50 miles northwest of Washington.
Responses to the initial report of the shooting by the sheriff’s office on Twitter showed surprise and concern.
One user replied: “heavily armed cops across from the park full of kids and families is far from normal around here.”
