Two Texas A&M police officers injured while arresting theft suspect
COLLEGE STATION, TX October 21 2018 Texas A&M University police officers were injured Thursday as they attempted to detain a theft suspect in College Station.
Officers were called to a cell phone repair store on Texas Avenue after employees learned a phone they received from a customer was stolen from the A&M campus.
When officers arrived at the store to speak with the customer, he took off running.
As the officers attempted to detain the suspect, he ignored police commands and resisted arrest, according to an arrest report.
As a result of the physical altercation, the officers reported having abrasions, bleeding, bruising, and significant pain to their elbows, hands, and knees, said police.
The suspect, identified as Mamadee Sangaray, 20, of Lancaster, was also injured and taken to the College Station Medical Center to be evaluated before he was taken to jail.
During their investigation, officers also learned Sangaray was in possession of a bicycle that was stolen from 100 Park apartments at Century Square.
Sangaray was booked into the Brazos County Detention Center on multiple charges including theft, failure to ID, evading arrest, criminal mischief, theft of property and two counts of assault on a public servant. His bonds total $43,000.
