TX. hospital security assaulted detaining fake nurses
Austin TX Nov 2 2021 The Austin Police Department says two women impersonating hospital personnel were arrested earlier this week at a North Austin medical center for an alleged fraud scheme.
It happened Tuesday afternoon at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center, located on the northbound MoPac service road just south of Parmer Lane.
APD says officers were called to the scene for a report of security officers needing backup.
Lus Dary DeSouza, 49, and Meeka Poteek Baker, 56, were detained by security.
APD says both were wearing blue scrubs and had wigs on to disguise their identity — and were apparently attempting to pretended to be hospital employees.
Nurses who worked at the hospital had alerted security because they had never seen these women before and thought they were acting strange.
But when the guards stopped the women, one of them threw down seven credit cards and the other began assaulting the security guards, APD says.
They were arrested for assault on a public servant, and multiple counts of fraudulent possession of identifying information.
Both women have multiple fraud-related felony warrants out of several states. They were booked into the Travis County Jail and the stolen credit cards were returned to the victims.
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call the Crime Stoppers tip line at 512-472-8477 (TIPS).
