TX police officer working security detail injured making arrest
SAN ANGELO TX June 26 2019– A 20-year-old woman was arrested Saturday on charges she used another person’s ID to enter a downtown San Angelo nightclub, which led to the injury of a police officer while the woman attempted to escape arrest, according to an affidavit.
On June 22, 2019, an off-duty uniformed police officer was working security at a nightclub in the 100 block of South Chadbourne St. when she received a complaint about a possible underage, intoxicated patron, according to the affidavit.
The officer approached the woman, asked for her identification and was presented a Texas driver’s license the officer didn’t believe matched the woman’s appearance. While holding the license, the officer asked for the woman’s date of birth. The woman responded incorrectly with a date different than from the driver’s license the officer was holding, records state.
The woman was asked for another form of identification and “flashed” it to the officer, but refused to hand it over, according to the affidavit. As the officer took out her handcuffs and began to arrest the woman on suspicion of failure to identify herself, the woman allegedly said she was “not going anywhere” and tried to run away from the officer, records state.
The officer was able to catch the woman and proceeded to place her in handcuffs, but the woman pulled away and the officer was dragged toward the exit doors and fell, according to the affidavit.
The woman managed to exit the building, but was quickly tackled by staff and others, according to the affidavit.
As a result of being dragged and falling down, records state the officer hyperextended her right shoulder, sprained her right knee and right ankle, and scratched her left elbow. The officer was taken to Shannon hospital for minor injuries, according to the affidavit.
Serena Renee Trevino was arrested on suspicion of failure to identify and intent to give false information, resisting arrest, assault on a peace officer, misrepresentation of age by a minor and assault on a public servant. Trevino was released on more than $11,000 bond later that same day, according to jail records.
Records show Trevino was less than three weeks away from turning 21 years old and being legally allowed to drink in the nightclub where she was arrested.
