SCOTTSDALE, AZ Jan 30 2020
A man entered the HonorHealth Scottsdale Osborn Medical Center last night armed with a rifle and threatening to shoot himself and others if his ex-girlfriend who was a patient didn’t come out.
According to Sgt. Ben Hoster of the Scottsdale Police Department, Joshua Greenleaf, 27 was involved in a domestic violence relationship with his ex-girlfriend and was at the hospital to find her. Hoster also said that Greenleaf had made suicidal comments.
Unarmed hospital security officers struggled with the armed man and eventually got the rifle away from him.
Officers were called there after reports of a man armed with a rifle. Before officers arrived, unarmed hospital security guards had fought with the man and took his rifle away but when two Scottsdale officers and a sergeant arrived at the scene, the man, now identified as Greenleaf, took out a knife and lunged at them. A Scottsdale police spokesman said one of the officers felt threatened and shot Greenleaf as he advanced.
No officers were injured during the incident. Police said they took Greenleaf inside to be attended to by hospital staff, but he died from his injuries.
