Unarmed Security Officers Stand Down – Run For Their Lives

Unarmed security officers had to stand down and in several incidents they literally ran for their lives in recent shootings and assault incidents. Now police and some business customers wonder why security guards were even there.
A shooting at the Park Place Apartments has left one person dead and two others injured. The apartment complex had an unarmed security officer on duty at the time of the shooting but he ran for his vehicle. He was able to call 911 but other residents had also made those calls to police during the shooting.
A female tenant not identified by reports stated that the security guards can’t protect them if they can’t even protect their own self from a person with a gun.
The apartment manager would not answer questions for local media.
A Walmart loss prevention agent faced an armed woman recently during an argument between her and other shoppers. This interaction between the armed woman and store security could have turned deadly. One of the women fighting over school supplies pulled a handgun and pointed it at several others involved in the melee.
Police quickly arrived to disarm the woman and no charges have been filed yet but the district attorney is reviewing statements and surveillance video to determine what if any charges should be brought against the armed woman.
An 81 year old Sears store security officer was killed last week during an attack by two shoplifters stealing televisions. Richland County South Carolina deputies report that the men beat the security officer with their fists and pushed him to the ground causing a fatal injury.
The security officer was not armed.
An unarmed security officer in Manassas Virginia was also brutally attacked by a mob while on duty at a shopping center.
The 35 year old security officer asked the men not to loiter in the parking lot when they jumped him and began to beat him leaving him with serious injuries and he is still hospitalized. One arrest was made and police are searching for other men involved in the attack.
A Nashville security on patrol in the downtown area heard gunshots and ran toward the shooting even though he was unarmed. The occupants of a vehicle shot a man who had been sleeping near the tourist area of Nashville. The security officer administered first-aid to the shooting victim and called police and stayed with the victim even though he was not sure where the shooters were and had they returned he would not have been able to defend himself.
A nearby business customer commented to local media that in this day and age security officers need to be armed to protect themselves and the business that they are hired to protect.
On the other side of the coin in Evansville Indiana last week a contract federal courthouse security officer and a police officer were able to defend themselves against a bat wielding man who attacked them. Both officers opened fire and fatally wounded the man who had smashed out courthouse windows and threatened several other security officers before being shot.
An Arizona armored truck security officer came under attack by an armed would be robber as he was making a cash pick up at a casino. The armed security officer was able to defend himself and shot and killed the suspect.
