University Place security nabs car burglar
Orem UT Oct 5 2017 The Orem Police Department arrested a Bicknell man Monday afternoon in connection with recent vehicle burglaries, according to police reports.
Preston Snedeger, 37, was arrested on suspicion of the second-degree felonies of transporting prohibited items to a correctional or mental facilities and theft; the third-degree felonies of possession of dangerous weapons by a restricted person and four counts of unlawful acquisition, possession and transfer of a card; the class A misdemeanors of theft, unlawful possession of a dangerous weapon, mail theft, three counts of burglary of a vehicle and possession of a controlled substance; and the class B misdemeanors of possession of drug paraphernalia and two counts of theft.
Police were called to University Place by mall security on reports of a man with a laptop trying to enter vehicles, according to the police report. Snedeger, who was detained by mall security, said he hadn’t been burglarizing vehicles.
Officers discovered the laptop belonged to someone who had called to report it had been taken from their vehicle, police reported.
Snedeger was placed under arrest and mall security asked for his vehicle to be impounded and removed from the mall parking lot, according to the report.
During this process, Snedeger reportedly told officers there was meth in the vehicle. They also found drug paraphernalia, thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry, a revolver, knives, wallets and transaction cards which didn’t have Snedeger’s name on them.
Snedeger told officers the jewelry had been taken from other vehicles, according to the report.
