Unlicensed Texas security guard arrested for selling marijuana
Laredo TX November 21, 2022
A man was arrested for posing as a security officer at a local Whataburger and selling marijuana, according to Laredo police.
Guillermo Francisco Martinez Jr., 18, was charged with impersonating a security officer and possession of marijuana.
On Nov. 11, troopers assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety Regulations Division in conducting security regulations inspections.
Authorities conducted a security check at the Whataburger on 4902 San Bernardo Ave.
Troopers asked a Whataburger employee for the establishment’s security officer.
The employee pointed to a man wearing a black cap with the word “SECURITY.”
DPS identified him as Martinez, who stated that he was the security officer.
During the encounter, troopers smelled an odor of burnt marijuana emitting from Martinez. Asked if he was in possession of marijuana, Martinez stated he had a marijuana blunt in his left jacket pocket. Martinez was then arrested, according to the arrest affidavit.
Troopers asked Martinez if he had more marijuana. Martinez stated he had a bag of marijuana in the trunk of his 2013 Dodge Avenger, authorities said. He allegedly provided a statement following his arrest.
“During the field interview, Martinez stated he was a drug dealer and bought the bag for $280 and sold it at a street value of approximately $800,” the affidavit states.
It was also revealed that Martinez was not a licensed security officer, according to DPS.
