Utah man arrested for threatening to shoot Walmart patrons
Washington County Utah December 10 2018
A Clearfield man was arrested in Southern Utah on Thursday night after police say he threatened to shoot people at Walmart and commit suicide by cop.
Milton Bowcutt, 26, was charged with making a terrorism threat, unlawful possession of a firearm, drug possession and paraphernalia possession.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement throughout the county were alerted to reports of an individual who made threats to shoot patrons who were shopping at Walmart.
WCSO Sgt. Nate Abbott said they received the information from the Box Elder Sheriff’s Office around 10 p.m.
Northern Utah investigators tracked Bowcutt’s whereabouts via his cell phone to the Washington County area after they determined the threat was “credible,” Abbott said.
His vehicle was located near Rockville by Springdale police officers at around 11:30 p.m.., Abbot said, while Bowcutt was traveling westbound on SR-9.
The Sheriff’s Office and Hurricane police officers responded to the incident and detained Bowcutt near Virgin. Abbott said Bowcutt did not resist arrest, though he declined to speak with police about the incident.
“He had rifle ammunition in the vehicle,” Abbott said. “They didn’t locate a firearm, but the information we had been given was that he was believed to be in possession of one. They did find other weapons in his vehicle, like a knife.”
Abbott said he was not aware if Bowcutt had threatened a specific Walmart. There are three Walmart Supercenters in Washington County, and Abbott said several agencies responded to ensure each location was safe.
Bowcutt is being held at the Washington County Jail on a $10,000 cash-only bail.
