The deputy was working a uniformed off-duty job at Eastland Mall when a 911 call came in regarding a shoplifter. Mall security directed the deputy to the suspect’s vehicle. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle in the parking lot of the nearby Wendy’s.
When the deputy left his car, the sedan began to drive away. Cosby’s vehicle continued a short distance before driving over a curb and into a grassy section of the parking lot. The deputy attempted to remove the key from the ignition, but Cosby put the car in reverse and accelerated, dragging the deputy, according to the news release.
The deputy was thrown onto the vehicle’s hood and then onto the pavement next to the front left tire of the car. Cosby drove forward running over the deputy’s foot, shielded from serious injury by safety toe boots. The car hit the deputy’s vehicle and a second parked vehicle.
Cosby was arrested at that time without further incident. She was interviewed and booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail.
