Video shows bouncer attacking unruly patron outside of local bar
CINCINNATI OH Oct 26 2022 A 14-second video clip has rocked social media.
It shows a shocking confrontation at The Banks between a bouncer and a patron. A man’s head was violently slammed twice right on a picnic table. This has been described as disturbing and painful to watch.
But what happened before this video, does not necessarily make his actions right, but at least give us more context as to why this situation unfolded.
It is a video that is causing people to wince in pain as they watch a man’s head slammed violently on a picnic table outside of Holy Grail Bar in The Banks on Sunday night, but it is also important to know what happened before the camera started rolling.
“I was honestly recording myself, me and my friends were taking a video and it happened and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, let me flip my camera,’ and that’s when it happened,” said Ava Newbill who originally recorded the incident to her Snapchat.
Newbill caught the act on camera. She headed out for drinks after her shift at a local bar in The Banks. She was not initially recording the bouncer; she was actually recording the other man for his erratic behavior: shaking the bike racks around Holy Grail and egging the bouncer on.
“He knocked over one of the guard rails that had rocks in it like was weighed down and after that is when I started recording the video because I’m like, ‘OMG, this guy is crazy,’” said Newbill.
But what the bouncer decided to do next shocked Newbill and everyone in the area even more. You can see a person try to get the bouncer off the man at one point.
“I understand his frustrations, but I don’t agree with his usage of force and how forceful he was,” said Newbill.
And neither does Holy Grail. The owner confirmed the bouncer is no longer with their establishment.
The bar deleted its Facebook and Twitter accounts. While the victim has not filed a police report, Cincinnati Police confirmed they are looking into the incident.
“Like, if I didn’t record it and it didn’t get put out, I don’t think the guy would have gotten in any trouble,” said Newbill.
But this brings up another question for Newbill. Newbill said the bouncer did try to get help from an officer who continued to walk by.
“The police literally walked right past the guy knocking shit over and the security guard was like ‘Hey, can you all come get him,’ and they just walked right past him,” said Newbill.
Elijah McKinney, the head of security at another bar in The Banks, said he comes into work with the mentality he will have to handle tough situations on his own.
“I think one question a lot of people miss is how many of those situations have we dealt with that day,” said McKinney.
While McKinney admits sometimes they have to put their hands on people, he trains everyone to do it responsibly, but adds that once the disruption is out of the bar, it is a hands-off zone.
“I hope it’s an experience he can learn from and maybe at his next job he can apply himself differently,” said Newbill.
Newbill admits that she believes there is fault on both ends. She said if the man had just left when he was asked to leave, this would have never happened, but still does not condone the actions of the security guard.
It is also important to note this was after the Bengals’ game on Sunday and there were several unruly situations unfolding, including a man who undressed and refused to put his clothes back on.
