Video shows bus security guard, driver standing by as passenger is violently attacked
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. October 14 2018– Video of an attack on an Albuquerque city bus caught on camera shows both the security guard and bus driver on board made no effort to stop it.
Michael Escajeda told 4 Investigates the incident occurred while he was on his way home from work on May 10.
A security guard on board the city bus told him to turn off the camera light mounted on his helmet. Shortly afterward, the video shows an unidentified passenger lunge at Escajeda.

When Escajeda goes to the front of the bus for help, the video shows the bus driver telling him, “You can get off the bus…you can get on your bike and you can go home.”
“You were asked by a security officer to turn off your light,” the driver later says. “You instigated trouble.”
The same security guard who harassed Escajeda about having a camera light watches the assault before pushing him off the bus. Meanwhile, the man who threw the first punches remained on the bus as Escajeda asks the bus driver to call police
The aggressive passenger can then be seen circling back and attacking Escajeda a second time.
“He comes around and he attacks me again, and this time it was worse than the first,” Escajeda said. “As I’m on the floor getting beat, the security guard comes out and he just watches me as I get beat.”
The attacker eventually ran away.
4 Investigates went to the city to find out why the security guard simply stood by during the confrontation, something officials said they couldn’t answer because the matter is now pending litigation.
“The safety of our passengers is always our foremost concern,” an Albuquerque Transit Department spokesperson said. “We strive to ensure that when anyone gets on our buses, they have a quality experience.”
However, Escajeda insists he doesn’t feel safe.
“There’s still no way I’m going to not have this crime be ignored, which is apparently what they were all trying to make happen,” he said.
