Violent shoplifter attacks LP agent-tried disarming police officer
Pullman WA November 5 2018 A 26-year-old man was arrested at Walmart on Thursday in Pullman for suspicion of burglary, theft, malicious mischief, obstructing a law enforcement officer, felony harassment, assault and attempting to disarm a police officer.
According to information provided by Pullman police, Xavier McBride, who was trespassed from Walmart for previous altercations, allegedly attempted to steal $330 worth of merchandise from the store during a power outage Thursday afternoon.
When stopped by Walmart security, McBride allegedly became agitated and physically violent, upending displays and destroying $712 in goods.
Police said when they were called to the scene around 5:40 p.m., the episode moved to the crosswalk outside the store, where officers wrestled McBride into a pair of handcuffs.
During the scuffle, McBride allegedly kicked a parked vehicle, and a person backing away from the altercation was struck by another vehicle.
McBride continued to resist after he was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital for evaluation and, at one point, allegedly attempted to remove an officer’s taser from his belt.
Police said they are still investigating, but drugs or alcohol may have been a factor.
