Virginia Capitol Police officer shot during training after accidental discharge of service weapon
RICHMOND, Va. October 6 2018 A Capitol Police officer was inadvertently shot at the Colonial Shooting Academy during a shooting range practice session on Thursday.
According to Capitol Police, a number of officers were at the Colonial Shooting Academy, located at 6020 W. Broad St, when one Capitol officer had an accidental discharge of a service revolver. The incident occurred at 2:30 p.m.
The officer, who was not identified by Capitol Police, was struck in the upper right leg area.
Capitol Police told 8News he was taken to a nearby hospital in Henrico with non-life-threatening injuries.
The officer was then discharged at 4:30 p.m.
An internal investigation is underway. Henrico County Police are also investigating the incident.
