Virginia security company owner convicted of killing employee he had affair with
ALEXANDRIA, Va. Sept 26 2019 The owner of a Virginia security company who was having an affair with an employee has been convicted of fatally shooting her after she tried to break up with him.
News outlets report that 44-year-old Daniel Kankam was convicted of first-degree murder Monday for the January slaying of 35-year-old Somaya Ahmed Hussein.
Prosecutors say Hussein’s roommate told investigators she’d heard them arguing and that the relationship was violent. Trial testimony also accused Kankam of sending Hussein threatening messages and telling a friend he might “cut the head of the snake off.”
Kankam maintained he wasn’t in the room when Hussein died, and his lawyers suggested she killed herself. She died of a gunshot wound to the mouth.
A jury recommended Kankam be sentenced to 26 years in prison.
