Virginia State Police Agent Shot to Death

A special agent with the Virginia State Police has been shot and killed.
Police say that the shooting occurred in the evening hours of Friday night.
A heavy police presence has been seen in and around Mosby Court area.
Police early Saturday identified the officer killed as Special Agent Michael T. Walter of the Virginia State Police
Police said that the suspect fled but was captured Saturday morning at around 6 am in Northumberland County Virginia.
The suspect is identified as Travis Ball, 27 of Richmond.
The shooting happened just after Walter and Richmond police officer approached the car shortly after 7:30 p.m. in the 1900 block of Redd Street, in the heart of the public housing development. A passenger in the vehicle fired a shot and ran, police said. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and was detained. The suspect is described as a black male in his mid-20s with a medium build, short cropped hair and wearing a red or plaid button-down shirt and khaki cargo long shorts or pants.
“It was not an actual traffic stop. They just approached the vehicle,” State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said. “They were just having a conversation with the individuals when the state police special agent was shot.”
