Waco game room security officer attacked, fired on; 3 suspects sought
WACO, Texas Sept 8 2017 Police were looking for suspects Wednesday after a Waco game room security officer was attacked and fired on as he followed a vehicle he thought was linked to several recent game room robberies.
The security officer, whose name was not released, was working at around 10 p.m. Tuesday at a game room at South 18th Street and Webster Avenue when he spotted the vehicle, police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said Wednesday.
He began to follow the vehicle, but the man who was driving stopped, got out and attacked him, Swanton said.
A woman who was riding in the vehicle also got out and joined the attack, he said.
The two eventually got back into their vehicle and fled.
The security officer followed them to the Stripes Convenience Store at 2500 Franklin Ave. where a second man pulled up in another vehicle.
“The two male suspects then rushed the security officer’s vehicle with one of the suspects firing a handgun at the officer,” Swanton said.
“The security officer was able to drive away from the scene, but his vehicle was struck by the gunfire,” he said.
The two men got into the second suspect’s vehicle and fled.
The security officer followed them to 815 Columbus Ave., where the two men abandoned the vehicle and ran.
The security officer wasn’t seriously injured, Swanton said.
