Walmart shoplifting suspect stabs self in neck after struggle with officer
EVENDALE, Ohio Feb 21 2020
A man suspected of shoplifting stabbed himself in the neck outside the Evendale Walmart, police said Monday afternoon.
It happened around 2 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter in the 2800 block of Cunningham Drive.
According to officials with the Evendale Police Department, the shoplifting suspect fled from security personnel at the store.
Police were called, and a responding officer spotted a man matching the suspect’s description on the east side of the parking lot.
The officer approached the man, authorities said, and a brief struggle ensued.
Officials said the officer was able to get the man to the ground. He remained noncompliant, police said, and was able to pull a folding knife from his pocket.
The officer disengaged, ordering the man to drop the knife, according to a release from the Police Department.
The man then stabbed himself in the neck, officers said.
Officers at the scene were able to subdue the man and begin first aid. He was taken to Bethesda North Hospital for treatment.
The man’s identity has not been released, and his condition is unknown.
