Washington DC police officer dies in off-duty traffic collision
WASHINGTON DC April 7 2018Â A Metropolitan Police officer was killed in a vehicle crash Friday afternoon.
According to D.C. police, Officer Jamal Shaw passed away following the crash in Prince George’s County.
Police confirm Shaw was riding a motorcycle in the 9100 block of Piscataway Road in Clinton around 3:25 p.m. when a vehicle nearby made an abrupt lane change, forcing him “to take evasive action resulting in his motorcycle sliding on its side.”
When Shaw did so, he was struck by another vehicle.
Shaw was transported to a local hospital where he later died, police say.
Members of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department honored Shaw as a procession headed to Baltimore Friday night.
Shaw joined the D.C. police department in May 2015 and was recently assigned to the First District.
The driver who hit Shaw is not facing any charges.
